The European Union has imposed measures against certain persons, groups, or organisations in some cases as a contribution to combating terrorism and in others to restrict business relations with individuals who are seen as responsible, or who are responsible, for the political situation in an embargoed country. Imports from a non-European Union state are prohibited where the consignor (individual, group, organisation or similar) is subject to a restriction imposed by an European Union regulation.
