What is a parallel or a grey import?

Goods that have been produced with the agreement of the right-holder (they are thus authentic products) but that have been marketed in the European Union or in the signatory states of the European Economic Area (Norway, Iceland; and Liechtenstein) without the right-holder’s agreement (e.g. games consoles which had been expressly produced for the Hong Kong market) are known as parallel or grey imports.
