Aromatised drinks are an important market for the Community’s agriculture. This market is largely dependent on quality and the reputation enjoyed by a number of these beverages within the Community and in the global market. For consumers the reputation of particular aromatised drinks is closely linked to a traditional origin.
Presently, Regulation (EU) No 251/2014 includes no more than five aromatised drinks based on wine products with geographical designations:
- Nürnberger Glühwein (mulled wine from Nuremberg)
- Thüringer Glühwein (mulled wine from Thuringia)
- Samoborski Bermet
- Vermouth de Chambéry
- Vermouth di Torino
All these geographical indications are reserved for drinks whose phase of production during which they are given their character and final characteristics takes place in the eponymous geographical region, provided that consumers are not misled about the source materials that are used.
