The EU has concluded numerous agreements in order to facilitate and promote trade on a non-discriminatory basis and on reciprocal terms with a large number of commercial partners. The agreements also cover the protection of geographical indications at an international level because the products concerned are of superior quality and highly esteemed among consumers.
The nature of reciprocal protection in each case and the lists of protected geographical indications are specified in each individual agreement.
