ZGR-online specialised procedure

In the area of industrial property protection, German customs use the ZGR-online IT procedure to effectively combat trade in counterfeit goods. ZGR-online stands for "Zentrales Datenbanksystem zum Schutz (central database system for the protection) Geistiger Eigentums (of industrial property) Rechte (rights) online (online)". It is a comprehensive data processing system through which applications for action by customs authorities are lodged, edited and distributed to customs offices in Germany and, in the case of intellectual property rights with Union-wide effect, to the customs offices of the other Member States. All steps to be taken by the German customs offices in the event of an interception, from recording the detection to informing the parties involved and communicating with the trademark company, are handled exclusively via ZGR-online.
