Import permit

Notwithstanding the principle of the free movement of goods, a number of provisions have been introduced to protect various European industries. This is the reason why in certain cases specific documents that allow the authorities to monitor the trade in these goods must be presented to the competent customs office when certain textiles are imported into Germany.

The commercial import of certain textiles from some non-EU countries may require the presentation of an import permit.

The import permit must already have been issued by the competent authority prior to the import of the textiles, and must be presented to the competent customs office together with the textiles at the time of entry.
