Social insurance while posted abroad

In principle, every employee working in Germany falls within the scope of the German social insurance.
Exceptions may apply during cross-border postings: for example, where an employee only works in Germany temporarily, but is basically employed abroad, or if he is employed in several countries.

Arrangements on the basis of bilateral agreements

There are bilateral agreements with some states that specify which social insurance legislation shall apply. You can find more information on the pages of the international division of the German Health Insurance Liaison Office:
