As a traveller, you should realise that alcohol (for example spirits, wine, beer, and so on), tobacco (for example cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, and so on), and energy products, are subject to excise duties throughout the EU. The duties are, though, levied at differing rates. Products containing coffee, and sweet beverages containing alcohol (alcopops) are only taxed in Germany. The restrictions on the circulation of these goods must be observed.
